It was in 1872 that Henri-Philippe Desclée, inspired by the wealth of natural springs and the generosity of the Molignée valley, chose this place to settle his family.
That same year, he decided to build the Maredsous Abbey in the heart of the family land. Over the generations, the Desclée de Maredsous family has continued to live in this valley, preserving the values of this family heritage
